Background

Judo Coffee is a new coffee brand that has goals of creating coffee at home more accessible and always fresh. They currently sell ground coffee beans sourced from Central & South America.

What I worked on

I created a new logo and package design for Judo Coffee, who just released their first products during Autumn 2022. I turned their mission and early concept ideas into a full visual brand.

My responsibilities

— Collaborate and receive feedback from checkpoints with the client
— Format files and designs into necessary deliverables for package printing
— Develop the look and feel for their premiere logo

The process
Choosing a typeface

The co-owner of Judo Coffee mentioned that the brand is influenced by the martial art of Judo, a system of unarmed combat that translates to "the gentle way" from Japanese. This background led me to finding a font with serifs that are reminiscent of traditional Japanese calligraphy.

The process
Putting together the package design

This brand was described to me as being: classic, refined, and cool. With that in mind, I decided to use a cool-toned palette, and use similar formatting to typical coffee bean bags.
